Meet Dustin and Rebecca: One on One Series (Part 1)
How it all started
Five years ago, Dustin Gonzales set out to master realism tattoos, both color and black and grey. The real turning point came when he recognized potential in a young artist just beginning her journey. Rebecca Murphy had the drive, but she needed guidance. The kind of mentorship Dustin himself never had when he was starting out.
Instead of turning her away, as many had done to him, Dustin chose a different path. He offered structure and challenged Rebecca to draw every single night for two months and present her work consistently. It wasn’t hazing; it was a test of commitment.
The mentorship philosophy that actually works
Rebecca remembers crying during her apprenticeship, but what stayed with her just as strongly was this: Dustin never made it personal. His critiques were direct and demanding, but always aimed at the work, never at her. He pushed her to understand the difference between right and wrong, because he believed she could. "One day it just clicked," Rebecca shares. "I realized he wanted the best for me and for me to grow as an artist."
This mentorship model creates artists who don't just make tattoos — they make art. And it pushes Dustin too. "She's studying black and grey realism, so I'm studying color realism," he explains. "We're both starting from scratch together."
Our studio specializes in realism, the kind that makes you stop and stare. Rebecca's focus on opaque wash techniques brings dimension and depth. Dustin's expansion into color realism demonstrates the continuous evolution we embrace.
What we bring to your tattoo
Rebecca is currently working on an ambitious leg sleeve inspired by a fantasy novel, showcasing intricate character work, detailed daggers and layered designs that showcase the level of custom work we do. This isn't a flash piece; it's a collaboration between artist and client to create something truly personal.
Rebecca's pushing herself toward convention competition this year, aiming to get a piece on stage. She's approaching 2026 with better preparation and renewed focus on quality over quantity. Dustin continues his mission to be ambitious and pushing limits and proving that artists who start out young can grow into industry leaders.
We don't just put what you want on your body. During your consultation, our artists take time to understand you and your aesthetic. We design what we think will look incredible on you, not just a generic version of your reference image.
You can reach out to Dustin by email at dustingonzales.inc@gmail.com for inquiries, booking information and waitlist placement for cancellations. Connect with Rebecca through Instagram or TikTok direct message for consultations and project discussions.
