Meet Skye: One on One Series
Skye’s Canvas
Before picking up a tattoo machine, Skye spent years teaching dance starting at age 14, followed by retail work where she discovered her passion for connecting with people. After two years studying Fine Arts at MacEwan, she made the bold decision to pursue tattooing, landing an apprenticeship at Gold Ocean in Leduc that would launch her new career.
Mastering the craft
Skye’s artistic specialties include fine line work, whimsical and witchy designs, and black and grey pieces featuring stipple shading and whip shading techniques. Currently, she's challenging herself with realism and expanding into Japanese-style tattoos, diving deep into the cultural significance behind traditional designs to create authentic, original pieces.
For aspiring artists
Skye's key advice for anyone looking to break into tattooing? Draw constantly, develop your unique style and commit fully to the work. She emphasizes that comparison is the biggest obstacle for emerging artists and to focus on their own progress rather than measuring themselves against others.
